It would be relatively easy at this point to re-re-re-re-repeat what’s already been written in a myriad of other blog posts, telling its readers in no uncertain terms that M365 backup is a must, and so important that even Microsoft themselves strongly recommend that you take a 3rd party backup solution, and that the retention bin is not a backup, etc etc, and to be honest, whilst the content would be right, it would also be quite boring!
Therefore, we’ll focus on a few areas, that are easy to overlook, but I think are AS important as actually backing up the data in the first place:
Data locality – Aside from regulatory requirements for data sovereignty (you will have chosen your geo at M365 initial setup), although Microsoft provide high levels of resilience to the platform, and various replication technologies across geo’s, its really important to ensure that you are not backing up your data back onto a core platform that its protecting
Speed of restoration – Simple one, will you be able to restore your data as fast as the business needs? Each business has an MTPoD (Maximum tolerable period of disruption – read our BC/DR blog for more details on this) and ensuring that you can restore key data in a manner that aligns with the business needs is of huge importance
Lock-in avoidance – does the platform either lock you in, or leave you facing the question “do I throw away my retention, OR overlap two solutions to build retention in a new platform”
And of course, it should be easy to procure, likely in a commoditised fashion, and should be easy to implement and manage, even better if its a managed solution!
Its with these principles in mind that we at Dataplanet put together our Managed M365 backup platform:
It is outside the Microsoft network in a UK Tier3 Datacentre and as you would expect, running upon multiple highly resilient platforms from tier one vendors, but designed with outright performance in mind.
Fully Managed: Our UK based technical team take ownership of all monitoring and support
Complete Coverage: Email, SharePoint and OneDrive (obviously!)
Provides end of term options for your data – we understand that our customers want to try other solutions or platforms from time to time, so, if you choose the option, we can deliver YOUR backups, back to you to keep on premise, without additional licensing or management fees etc.
We’re so confident in the value and reliability of our M365 Backup Service that we’re offering a free proof of concept. It’s your opportunity to see first-hand how our solution can meet your needs without any investment. Get it touch with the team today to find out more.
