What's your score?
Most small businesses I speak to think Microsoft 365 has them fully covered when it comes to security. The truth is, out of the box, it’s good — but not great. There are usually gaps, and those gaps are exactly what attackers go after.
That’s where Microsoft Secure Score comes in. Its not an infallible method of making sure your environment is secure - that's a much wider topic, BUT it does give insights into your organisations security posture, and opportunities to improve it.
What is Secure Score?
Secure Score is built right into Microsoft 365. It’s basically a security health check for your setup. It looks at things like how your staff log in, whether multi-factor authentication is turned on, how data is being shared, and if devices are properly protected.
It then gives you a score - the higher the score, the better your protection.

Why Business Owners Should Care
This isn’t about ticking a box for IT. It’s about protecting your business from things that could cause serious damage:
Cybercriminals target smaller companies because they know security is often lighter.
A single incident could cost you time, money, and your reputation.
Regulators (GDPR, Cyber Essentials) expect you to take data protection seriously.
Improving your Secure Score is a practical, affordable way to reduce your risk.
What We Usually Find
When we carry out Secure Score reviews for clients, the same issues pop up again and again:
Staff accounts without multi-factor authentication.
Old user accounts still active.
Sharing settings too wide open.
Devices not being properly managed.
Individually these might not sound huge, but together they leave the door open.
